As another elite engineering school in California, Cal Poly is also selective, but not as selective as Caltech. It offers some unique programs but does not offer a doctorate program. They ask that applicants know the specific field they wish to study and be able to answer why. Their acceptance is ideal for the passionate student. If you love it, go for it.

California State University

  • Location: Chico, California

CSU Chico offers more flexibility than most. It has a large student body size and because of that you can expect a lot of fun and student-lifestyle catered activities. Its campus is very inviting and they offer several online courses to help working students. CSU provides you with a quality education and the ability to complete your studies at your own pace. If life already has you very busy, do not give up on your goals and apply here.

Note: California State University has several other campuses that also offer some engineering programs. We have found the Chico campuses offer the most diverse and focused courses. You can also check out their locations in San Bernardino, Sacramento, Northridge, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Fullerton, Fresno, and East Bay. Definitely a lot of campuses to choose from, which will make your relocating choices a bit easier if you already live in the state.
